DJI Mavic 4 Pro: Is its release imminent?

If there is one thing I know about DJI product releases, it’s that they are always heralded by a frenzy of leaks. That seems to be happening right about now with Jasper Ellens’ new leaks on the features, shells, and cameras of the yet-to-be-announced Mavic 4 Pro.

We’ve been waiting on the Mavic 4 Pro for quite some time now. Its FCC filing hit the database last December, with slow leaks popping up over the last couple of months. Now, prominent leaker Jasper Ellens has provided us with a few big leaks, detailing some drone specs and features that could be coming to the new mainstream camera drone.

Camera tilt and new roll control

There’s no hiding it, the Mavic 4 Pro is not a good-looking drone. To use Ellen’s description, it looks like a security camera. I would say it’s more like my church’s PTZ live streaming cameras, but potato, potato (that analogy doesn’t really work in text, does it?).

There is one big pro that the massive Eye of Sauron camera payload gives you: the ability to tilt its cameras at high angles.

According to Ellens, the Mavic 4 Pro’s payload will be able to tilt up 10 degrees more than the Air 3 and Mini 4, totalling 70 degrees. Unlike the Mavic 3, this will likely help those who need to shoot above the drone. With the new security camera-like design, the rotors will no longer be in the way, it seems, for that to happen.

Additionally, Ellens shares that the Mavic 4 Pro might feature a new change that is completely new: camera roll control. I think Ellens and I are both not entirely sure why you might want manual control over the roll; however, it could give creatives some room for even more unique shots.

Ellens states the roll can go at least 175 degrees in each direction, but potentially it could be 360 degrees, meaning you can do a complete rotation going in one direction.

New product images

Ellens later shared new front product images for the Mavic 4 Pro, showing just how large the new cameras look. I wasn’t able to notice any markings for focal lengths, although they are believed to be 50mm and 145mm equivalent zoom lenses. But we do see the return of the Hasselblad collaboration with the Mavic drone series; no surprise there.

What are the specific camera specs? I guess we’ll have to wait for further leaks to show us what to expect. I would anticipate a slight overall upgrade from the Mavic 3 Pro, but maybe DJI will surprise us with something out of this world.

Charging upgrades

One final tidbit from Ellens was on the Mavic 4 Pro’s charging. A Chinese filing shares that the new drone will support up to 240W of charging and will feature a parallel charging hub. This sounds to be a smaller version of what you get with the Inspire 3, to charge multiple DJI batteries at once.

With the Mavic being DJI’s flagship camera drone line, we’re expecting to be wowed by the latest generation. With the spring season starting to become more and more apparent, I’m hoping we will be getting release details soon.
